Es habitual en las conversaciones cinéfilas escuchar que la dicotomía entre cine de autor y de género está superada. Cuanto mayor es la necesidad de evidenciar algo, menos cierto suele ser.
El posmodernismo nos trajo ejercicios referenciales y metafílmicos que acabaron por convertir el propio ensayo sobre el género en una huella autoral. Los Coen o Quentin Tarantino son buena muestra de esto.
